Greetings and
welcome to my website! This school year, 2012 – 2013, is
my 5th year teaching at Double
Churches Middle School in Columbus, GA.
Before teaching I worked in a school setting for over 15
years, as a secretary, office clerk, and bookkeeper, so
I’ve seen how valuable education is and how incredibly
devoted the majority of faculty and staff are to our
students in public education.
My own children
have been my motivating factor for me to be a life-long
learner. I have a 26 year-old son, a 23 year-old daughter,
an 11 year-old daughter and an 18 month old granddaughter.
My 11 year-old and I share our home with my husband, one
cute dog, and one cool cat. My favorite thing to do other
than spend time with my family and friends is gardening. I
especially love to garden
vegetables. The feeling of planting seeds, watching
them grow, and eating what you’ve sown, is a feeling of
pride and comfort for me.
I teach 6th
and 7th grade math in an inclusion
and a small-group classroom, as well as one earth
science and skills class. Last school year I found a way
to bring my love of gardening to the classroom. The
students and I created a math garden right outside my
window. We built four raised planting beds in geometric
shapes and added a pathway which can be used as an x-axis
and y-axis on a coordinate grid. It’s beautiful and the
students are more engaged with hands-on activities then
they are sitting in the classroom.
This website
will provide important links to school and classroom
information, as well as links for online learning,
tutoring, and activities that will enhance math skills.
Enjoy!
