Crisp Regional Youth Detention Center is included in Georgia's 181st school district, located in Cordele,Georgia, home of the Watermelon Capital. DJJ mission is to create a positive educational experiences so that the youth realize that education provides a key to a positive future. DJJ schools follow the Department of Education Standards.

I am a Special Education teacher at Crisp RYDC in Cordele, Georgia, home of the Watermelon Capital of the World. I am entering into my second year of teaching. Before becoming a teacher I worked in law enforcement in various positions. Last year I taught all academic subjects, but this year I am only teaching Language Arts and Social Studies. I enjoy teaching Language Arts and Social Studies because you actually have to read the text. And reading is FUNDAMENTAL! In my spare time I enjoy spending time with family and friends and reading novels. I am also attending Valdosta State University obtaining my second Master's in Special Education General Curriculum.

My class is not set up as a traditional classroom. At any given time I may have several students on different grade levels in different subjects all in one classroom. I'm currently teaching grades 6th through 12th in Language Arts and Social Studies. My classroom is the D.E.A.R. classroom. I have set aside times in my classroom that we read together in class. Some of the students really enjoy the activities. My regular students know when they enter my classroom, we WILL be reading. I have all sorts of interesting reading material on all reading levels. My goal is to teach students and to help the students who have difficulty reading.
